Hi Reader, Japan is incredible – but I don’t think it's right for everyone. Now that I’ve had some time (a lot of time, eek!) to decompress and process our trip, I want to give you the most useful thing I can after a trip like this: an honest answer to whether this destination is actually right for you. Japan is a stunning country on so many levels. The culture runs deep, and the mineral rich onsens run hot. The food is as next level as you’ve heard, all the way down to the 7-Eleven onigiri and bento boxes. And I would go back again in a heartbeat! But I also met travelers who were frustrated, overstimulated, and genuinely would have a better time somewhere else – and that’s worth talking about.

You’ll love it if…
It's probably not your best fit if…
None of this is a criticism of those frustrated and overstimulated travelers! It's just that there are better destinations for what they're looking for. I'd rather point you there than watch you spend a bunch of money on a trip that doesn't suit you. If you came to me wanting total relaxation with zero logistics to manage, we'd have a different conversation. But if you're drawn to beautiful places with personality, depth, incredible food, and the kind of trip you’ll talk about for years, we know exactly how to plan it right. Hit reply and tell me where you land! If Japan is on your radar, we'd love to help you figure out if it's the right fit. And if it is, how to do it well. If not, we can pivot! |
Hey Reader, If you've been reading these emails for a while, you know I love taking you behind the scenes of our travel adventures. For the next month or so, I'm handing over the mic! One of our expert travel advisors, Alexandra, is heading out on a massive bucket-list trip to Indonesia next month. Over the coming weeks, she’s going to take over the newsletter, working towards giving you a real, unfiltered look at what it’s actually like to travel there. Take it away, Alexandra! Cheers,...
Reader, I've been planning Japan ski trips for years. And after this trip — skiing new terrain, checking out new hotels, navigating the transfers between new regions, and eating my way through all sorts of restaurants — I'd plan them a little differently. Not completely differently. But there are a few decisions I'd make with much more confidence now, and a few things I'd stop recommending entirely. Here's the honest version. NOTE: This post originally appeared on our official travel journal....
Reader, I recently spent ten days in Japan with my wife (Kendra, for those of you who don't know her). Ten Days. Four towns. More ramen, katsu, and sushi (anddd powder 😊) than we would like to admit. We're home (and have been for a while – whoops), with lots of thoughts. I have so much to share with you, but there are a few moments from our trip I keep coming back to. And a special shout out to Nana, Gigi, and Grandpa for keeping the kiddos safe, fed, and for sure spoiled back at home while...
